The Dutch Future Pensions Act took effect on 1 July 2023. All pension funds must have switched to the new pension system by 1 January 2028 at the latest. The timeline shows the steps we are taking to achieve this. In this way, you will stay informed of developments.
The Dutch Future Pensions Act came into force as of 1 July 2023. Pension funds have until 1 January 2028 to switch to the new pension rules. Bpf Koopvaardij plans to transition to the new pension rules by 1 January 2026.
Employers and employees in the merchant navy are making specific arrangements regarding the new scheme and the transition. Good to know: Bpf Koopvaardij also did a survey in 2024 about the risks members were willing to take with investments. We will take the results of this survey into account in further decisions.
The arrangements regarding Bpf Koopvaardij's new pension scheme are laid down in a plan: the transition plan. This plan is an important step in the transition to the new pension system. The 10 key arrangements are included in the Transition Plan.
We assess whether the arrangements made are easy to explain and implement. We also check whether the arrangements made are fair for all members, both young and old. If you want to know more about the arrangements made, please visit New pension system. There you will find the most up-to-date information.
The Dutch Central Bank (DNB) and the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) are reviewing our plans for implementing the new pension scheme and how we inform you about the scheme. DNB and AFM are the supervisors that are helping all pension funds in the Netherlands to make a careful transition to the new pension rules. They also monitor whether the transition is being carried out fairly for all members and whether pension funds are communicating this clearly.
You are probably curious to know what your pension will look like later. We have therefore made recognisable examples. You see an example of a pension as it is now next to the pension according to the new pension scheme. In the example we use five fictitious persons. You will receive a personalised calculation in the final quarter of 2025.
In the final quarter of 2025, you will receive an overview from us. This will include an estimate of the amounts for your pension from 1 January 2026. You will also see the expected amount of pension for your partner and/or children. Please note: these are provisional amounts.
We expect all pensions to be converted to the new pension scheme as of 1 January 2026. Your personal pension will not yet be visible in My Koopvaardij. We will convert all amounts carefully and check them properly. That takes time. By March 2026, all information will again be available in My Koopvaardij.
At the end of the first quarter, your pension will be converted to the new pension rules. You will then receive a second calculation with the most up-to-date amounts. View your new pension and log in to My Koopvaardij.
